Added a message from the Executive Director, CAPT Michael D. Ford, USNR (Ret) to the Main Page. This message is extremely important and requires the attention and action of all members of the NSCC. The message also deserves to be repeated. So here it is in its entirety:

Almost ten years ago on 7 May 1997, the NSCC rec’d one of its most infamous pieces of correspondence. This was a letter from the COMMANDER, NAVY RECUITING COMMAND to the Chairman, recommending the NSCC explore alternative uniforms rather than continue to use a modified US Navy uniform. RADM B. E. McCann’s letter was prompted by her observation of over weight and sloppy dress standards for officers in the NSCC. It was her strong desire to get the NSCC out of US Navy uniforms so the uniform would not be disgraced by those failing to meet basic standards. This crisis was averted only by promising RADM McGann that the NSCC would closely monitor uniform standards. And further, those not meeting standards would ask to go to an alternative uniform or be invited to leave the program if they refused.

It was brought to our attention that the standards of the NSCC officer corps are being violated again. Accordingly, we are asking each commanding officer, Regional Director, and HQ Representative to ‘take a turn’ on officer standards and ensure every one in uniform meets standards or get in the alternative uniform. We have several good looking alternative uniforms that are very smart in appearance and comfortable. Unfortunately, some people think they look good in the regular uniform even if they are way out of standards. They don’t. In fact there is nothing worse than an individual ‘stuffed’ into a uniform. It ruins the whole atmosphere of a NSCC event. So, we are asking each person in a position of authority to do your duty. Advise those not meeting standards, to get into the proper uniform.  We don’t want to sacrifice the well being of the NSCC program because someone thinks they look okay in uniform.  Thank you.
