SHORT FUSED OPPORTUNITY!
ACTION REQUIRED NOT LATER THAN 30 JANUARY 2004

1. Dates: Arrive 17 April, depart 30 April 2004

2. General: The USNSCC is authorized to send up to three (2) cadets (male or female) and one escort. Other countries invited include Canada, the UK, Sweden, Hong Kong and other ISCA member nations. Site for this exchange is Perth in Western Australia.

3. Training/Activities: Activities during the exchange will include cadet activities with Australian and other ISCA nation Sea Cadets, and sightseeing. Accommodation is expected to be first at Leeuwin Barracks in Perth. It is summer in Australia and their program is expected to include a variety of courses that cadets can elect to participate in. Courses include: adventure training, Leadership, small engines and engineering, cookery and gunnery and ceremonial parade ground activities. Participation in Anzac Day activities and parade is also included as well as a trip for several days to Bunbury where cadets will participate in sailing and other seamanship events. Additional details will be forwarded to selectees as they become available.

4. Qualifications: Sea Cadets applying for this exchange must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be 16 or older on or before the start of training
  • Must be PO2 or above, preference to senior cadets
  • Must not have participated in this exchange before
  • Recipient of the Cadet Citation Ribbon
  • Recommended by unit Commanding Officer
  • Complete and submit application attached. Follow directions on application forms and include all listed materials. For additional information go to <http://www.usnscc.org> and click "International Exchange Program".

5. Logistics/Costs: Federal funding support IS AVAILABLE for this exchange. NSCC cadet and escort travel costs to and from Australia WILL BE PAID FOR BY THE NSCC. NSCC will also subsidize Australian registration fees so that participating cadets fee will only be $200. Adult escort fee will be fully paid for. So, cadet costs will only be $200 plus spending money. Cost of any additional add on days in Australia will be at the expense of participants, and only as coordinated by the escort, and as made available by Australian Sea cadets (might not be available). Cadets must have in their possession a passport in order to complete travel and enter Australia. Officers should be prepared to pay an extra $25 for wardroom fees. Again, all personal spending, as well as any extra tours at the end of the camp are at the expense of the participants. All coordination will be with your SEO once he or she is identified.

6. Application Procedures: NOTE: This exchange is advertised only by this flyer and NHQ internet/1 MC posting due to short lead times. There is a selection process and all applicants, both adult and cadet will compete for selection.

  • A selection Board will convene probably 31 January (that's why you have to have the package submitted by 30 January). And NSCC must advise the Australians of participants not later than the first week of February.
  • SEO will be given Australian point of contact name, phone, and e-mail for final coordination; SEO to keep cadets advised.

7. COTC/Senior Escort Officer: To be identified.

8. Other: Parental release/indemnity forms, as might be required by all cadets, will be provided to SEO for further completion by all cadets, and further forwarding to the Australian Sea Cadet Corps prior to reporting. Again, this will be as required. Further details regarding the exchange, as provided by the Australian Sea Cadet Corps, will be provided to the SEO who in turn will keep cadets apprised.

Note: Short lead is regretted but it's a great opportunity and we encourage applications soonest.
