Subj: Year 2001 Sea Cadet Foreign Exchanges with BERMUDA

1. This letter advertises the Bermuda Sea Cadet Exchange scheduled 11-25 April.   Formal promulgation of additional/remaining opportunities (including re-iteration of this one) will be made via an information letter in late February. Bermuda is being advertised now because timelines/action dates are earlier than the rest.

2.       Exchange information and deadlines are as follow:

2001 BERMUDA INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE,
FX-BM

  • Dates:  Arrive Tues/Wed, 10/11April and depart Wed/Thurs, 25/26 April 
  • General: The USNSCC is authorized to send three (3) cadets (male or female) and one escort. Additional quotas might be possible.Other countries participating include Canada and the UK. Except for official functions and visits, most of the time will be spent in civilian clothes. Official visits will require Service Dress Whites (Jumpers – two sets) for males, and Summer Whites (2 sets) for females.Two sets of dungarees/utilities are required.Bermuda dresses somewhat more formally at night, so plan to bring the proper accessories.Temperature will be a blustery 72 degrees.
  • Training/Activities: Activities during the exchange will include historic tours, seasonal boating activities, kite flying, Bar-B-Que, other cadet activities with local Sea Cadet units, and courtesy calls on a number of local dignitaries, including the governor.

  • Qualifications:Sea Cadets applying for this exchange must meet the following requirements:

    • Must be 16 or older on or before the start of training (no waivers)
    • Must have a drivers license
    • Preference to PO-2 or above
    • Must not have participated in this exchange before
    • Recipient of the Cadet Citation Ribbon
    • Recommended by unit Commanding Officer
    • Enclosure (1) is the application package; follow those directions
  • Logistics/Costs:  NSCC personnel will only be responsible for their personal spending money; Bermuda is expensive and about $150 is recommended.

    • NSCC NHQ will pay for airline transportation and the $184 fee for Mopeds for each cadet selected to go.

Cadets must have in their possession either a passport or official birth certificate with raised seal in order to enter Bermuda (Cadets without either of these will be returned home). The Bermuda Sea Cadet Association will provide berthing, and almost all messing, at no cost. Again, Bermuda is expensive, and it is recommended that each cadet take a minimum of $150.00 to pay for gifts and other personal purchases. Your travel itinerary will be provided to you, coordination will be with your SEO.

  • Application Procedures:  SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE (WITH REQUESTS FOR TRAINING AUTHORITY) AS DIRECTED ENCLOSURE (1).  FOLLOW THE ENCLOSURE (1) DIRECTIONS.

    VERY IMPORTANT:  Applications must be received not later than close of business 9 March.

Late applications will be entertained dependant upon quota availability. Notification of selection will be made by the International Exchange Program selection committee immediately after selection.   A $100 deposit to SEO (to be applied towards your personal expenses) may be required. NHQ orders will follow, and those selected will be given additional information on other uniform/clothing items, an updated program of events, and other items of interest as provided by Bermuda.

  • SEO/COTC:   We need a Senior Escort Officer for this exchange.  Interested Officers should apply IAW enclosure (1) guidelines and call NHQ Capt Nyland (703) 243-6910 and advise of your interest (or e-mail HNYLAND@navyleague.org ).       

3.  Other .   SEO/COTC will be provided a list of cadets selected for this exchange and will be expected to assist in coordinating final flight arrangements between selected cadets and the travel agent assigned to make arrangements; WorldTravel Partners.    Quotas:  3 M/F cadets, maybe a few more; 1 M/F escort.  NSCC NHQ point of contact is Capt Nyland or First Sergeant Bunting.
