MEMORANDUM
When I last wrote you of our fundraising efforts, I told you that we would need each of you to help in a letter writing campaign to Congress. Our request for federal funding has been passed to both the House and Senate and it is time for letters requesting support for funding of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps to your Representative and Senators, as well as to Chairmen and Ranking Minority Members of Congressional committees. I have enclosed a list of specific members of Congress who are in the process of evaluating next year's appropriations, as well as a Naval Sea Cadet Corps information sheet to assist you in writing your letter. Every member of your family (and interested friends) should write to the Representative of your Congressional District and both Senators - regardless of their committee assignments, as well as the following: House Appropriations Committee:

Currently, the Majority party of both chambers of Congress is the Republican Party, and the Minority party is the Democratic Party. However, funding for the Sea Cadets is a bipartisan issue. Do not let other political issues intrude into your letter. The most effective letter is a polite personal one, not a form letter. Your letters should be no longer than one page. A hand written letter is fine as long as it is legible. Don't write on the back of a page. In a short first paragraph, state your purpose - the member's support for authorization and appropriation of funds for the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Support your position with the remainder of the letter. The time to write is now. I know this appears to be a big request, but it is just
the first hurdle to overcome. However, if we are to develop more young men and women into
the good citizens our country must have and significantly reduce the financial burden
shouldered by our Cadets and families, federal funding is essential. I know I can count on
you to do your part to help our Cadets, the future leaders of our nation. Keep up the good
work and remember "It is the Adventure of a Lifetime!"
