1. As May comes to an end, planning for summer training is just about complete, opportunities have been published, and COTC's identified. Coordination is well underway with most hosting activities to ensure the best training possible, transportation support is being arranged where needed, and the final details of berthing and messing are being attended to. 2. In Change Two to the training schedule published 7 May, we briefly referenced this year's requirement for a grand total of about 800 escorts to support this years 6,000 plus training opportunities. We think the Cadets will apply for most of these opportunities and to date have already cut over 1,000 orders, of which about 170 are for escorts. Our biggest challenge will be getting enough escorts to support summer training. I know you all well understand, Sea Cadet summer training simply doesn't happen without the requisite commitment by adult leadership to be escorts. 3. We need your personal involvement. As a Commanding Officer, Associate or Regional Director, or Headquarters Representative we need you to encourage adult leadership to be escorts. COTCs are already doing this and need your support. Over the next month, the month of June, we ask that you call, talk, and appeal to as many adults as possible, to be an escort this summer. Please set a goal of contacting a certain number of people in June and make the calls. The summer training plan shows the opportunities and lists the COTCs. Encourage your adults to call the COTCs and find out about the training, and sign on to support their Cadets. 4. We really do need your help. Even if a week is all that someone can give, welcome. their support for that week. Within each and every unit, look at where Cadets are training and how many are going. If you've got 6, 7, or more Cadets going to training, have you provided an escort? Please ask that question. It's the same one I'll be asking if I see an evolution falling short of escorts. The ratio is easy to figure, it's about 1 to 8.
