MEMORANDUM FOR DISTRIBUTION

Subj: BERMUDA INTERNATIONAL CADET EASTER EXCHANGE PROGRAM

1. During 1998 there will be numerous opportunities for qualified Naval Sea Cadets to participate in cadet foreign exchange programs. The first of the exchange programs is with Bermuda, which usually occurs around the Easter holiday.

2. The 1998 exchange with Bermuda is from 8 to 22 April, with arrival not earlier than (NET) 7 April and a departure not later than (NLT) 23 April. The following is forwarded for dissemination to those cadets interested in the Bermuda exchange.

    - General: The USNSCC is authorized to send five (5) cadets (male or female) and one escort. Other countries participating include Bermuda, Canada, and the UK. Except for official functions and visits, most of the time will be spent in civilian clothes. Official visits will require Service Dress Whites (Jumpers - two sets) for males, and Summer Whites 2 sets) for females. Two sets of dungarees/utilities are required. Bermuda dresses somewhat more formally at night, so plan to bring the proper accessories. Temperature will be a blustery 72 degrees.

    - Training/Activities: Activities during the exchange will include historic tours, seasonal boating activities, cadet activities with local Sea Cadet units. and courtesy calls on a number of local dignitaries, including the governor.

    - Qualifications: Sea Cadets applying for this exchange must meet the following requirements:

      - Must be 16 or older on or before the start of training
      - Must be E-3 or above
      - Must not have participated in this exchange before
      - Recipient of the Cadet Citation Ribbon
      - Recommended by unit Commanding Officer

3. Logistics: NSCC personnel will travel to and from Bermuda at their own expense; government transportation is not available. Cadets must have in their possession either a passport or official birth certificate with raised seal in order to enter Bermuda (Cadets without either of these will be returned home). The main source of transportation is by moped, and participants will need $184.00 to pay for rental cost for the two-week period. A $20.00 "exit tax" is also required. The Bermuda Sea Cadet Association will provide berthing, and almost all messing, at no cost. Bermuda is expensive, and it is recommended that cadets take $250.00 to pay for gifts and other purchases.

4. Training Authorizations/Applications: Submit training requests (NSC-22) as early as possible; only one cadet per unit. Applications must be received at NHQ by 6 March 1998. Notification of selection will be made by NHQ, and those selected will be given additional information on other uniform/clothing items, an updated program of events, and other items of interest provided by Bermuda.
