Barrett, USNR (Ret) Immediate action needed! Due to the problems screening and irradiating mail sent to Congress, it is taking over a month to get local letters delivered to member's offices. Out of town mail is even longer. In order to ensure your voice is heard in support of Naval Sea Cadet Corps' $2 million in funding, WRITE YOUR LETTERS NOW! Let your Representative and two Senators know wish them to support Naval Sea Cadet Corps funding in the FY03 Defense Appropriations Bill and to Senator Robert Byrd (Chairman, Senate Appropriations Committee), Senator Daniel Inouye (Chairman, Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee), Senator Ted Stevens (Ranking Member, Senate Appropriations Committee and Defense Appropriations Committee); Representative Bill Young (Chairman, House Appropriations Committee), Representative Jerry Lewis (Chairman, House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee), Representative David Obey (Ranking Member, House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee), and Representative John Murtha (Ranking Member, House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee). [Note: Chairmen are from the Majority Party, e.g. Senate Democrats and House Republicans. Ranking Members are the senior committee members from the Minority Party, e.g. Senate Republicans and House Democrats.] Addresses, phone numbers and email addresses may be found at the Navy League website, www.navyleague.org, or from www.house.gov and www.senate.gov. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but all you have to do is change the "TO." The same letter may be used for all. Make certain that your address is on the letters (so YOUR Congressmen know that you are a constituent. Due to the mail crisis, it would be wise follow up with an email/phone call. Contact your Representative's and Senator's district or state offices, visit and write again. That is the game plan. We will succeed, IF and ONLY IF we all get involved.
