2005 NAVY LEAGUE OF US (NLUS) SCHOLARSHIPS

Ref: (s) NSCC Regulations, Chapter 16

1. Purpose. To announce NSCC 2005 college scholarship opportunities and advise all commands of the Scholarship Application Forms.

2. Background. Reference (a) contains information on the annual college scholarships offered by the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Criteria for submission are outlined in NSCC Regulations and shall be adhered to for those submitting applications.

3. Discussion. The NSCC Board of Directors has approved another series of college scholarship opportunities for Sea Cadets during 2005. All cadets shall use NSCC Scholarship Application Form NSCADM 014 (available on the web site) when applying for NSCC scholarships. If an individual has applied for a NLUS scholarship, the NSCC college scholarship selection board will accept a copy of the applicant's NLUS application; but this copy must be sent in to NHQ. NSCC applications are due by 15 May 2005 at NHQ. The scholarships approved are as follows:

  • One (1) NSCC Scholarships of $2,000. 

  • One (1) NSCC Board of Directors Scholarship provided by Mr. Nicholas Ricco given in the name of his wife Anna for $1500.

  • One (1) Robert & Helen Scharf Hutton Scholarship of $1,000.

  • One (1) Stockholm Scholar for $2,500. This is the second year (renewal) for this award.

  • Three (3) Harry Lee & Rose Howell Scholarship as follows:

  •  Two (2) Howell Scholarships of $2,500 each.

  • One (1) Howell scholarship of $2,000.

  • One (1) San Diego and Gas & Electric Scholarship of $1,000.

NLUS Scholarships.
In addition to the NSCC scholarships, the Navy League (NLUS) has approximately five (5) new scholarships available to grant. These scholarships will be for four years at $2,500 per year. Information on these scholarships can be found on the NLUS web site (Navyleague.org) or call Caroline Jarvis at NLUS Hdqtrs at 703-528-1775, 703-312-1585. There is a separate application form for the Navy League scholarships. The form can be downloaded from the NLUS web site. Deadline for NLUS scholarships is 25 February 2005.

Cadets may apply for both NSCC and NLCC scholarships.

Commanding Officers are requested to give this information letter widest possible distribution and encourage interested and eligible cadets to apply.

4. Cancellation. This information letter is cancelled 1 June 2005.
