Subj: 2004 COLLEGE  SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
2004 NAVY LEAGUE OF US (NLUS) SCHOLARSHIPS

Ref: (a) NSCC Regulations, Chapter Sixteen

1. Purpose. To announce NSCC 2004 college scholarship opportunities and advise all commands of the Scholarship Application Forms.

2. Background. Reference (a) contains information on the annual college scholarships offered by the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Criteria for submission are outlined in NSCC Regulations and shall be adhered to for those submitting applications.

3. Discussion. The NSCC Board of Directors has approved another series of college scholarship opportunities for Sea Cadets during 2004. There are usually a limited number of applications for the scholarships, so the chances of getting a scholarship are excellent. All cadets shall use NSCC Scholarship Application Form (NSC-14 revised 1/98-on web site) or new form NSCADM 014 (available later) when applying for NSCC scholarships. Applications are due by 15 May 2004 at NHQ. The scholarships approved are as follows:

  • Two (2) NSCC Scholarships of $1,000 each.

  • One (1) scholarship to be given in the name of LCDR Gary Young for $1,000

  • One (1) NSCC Board of Directors Scholarship provided by Mr. Nicholas Ricco given in the name of his wife Anna for $1,150.

  • Five (5) Kingsley Foundation Scholarships of $1,000 each (subject to receipt of grant).

  • One (1) Robert & Helen Scharf Hutton Scholarship of $1,000

  • One Stockholm Scholar for $2,000

  • One (1) Harry Lee & Rose Howell Scholarship of $2,000

NLUS Scholarships.
In addition to the NSCC scholarships, the Navy League (NLUS) has approximately seven (7) new scholarships available to grant. Six (6) of these scholarships will be for four years at $2,500 per year. The seventh scholarship will be for $2,500 for one year. Information on these scholarships can be found on the NLUS web site (Navyleague.org) or call Sheila Hallas at NLUS Hdqtrs at 703-528-1775, 703-312-1556. There is a separate application form for the Navy League scholarships. The form can be downloaded from the web site. Deadline for NLUS scholarships is 10 March 2004.

Cadets may apply for both NSCC and NLCC scholarships.

Commanding Officers are requested to give this information letter widest possible distribution and encourage interested and eligible cadets to apply.

4. Cancellation. This information letter is cancelled 1 June 2004.
