From: Deputy Director, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC)
To: Distribution

Subj: 2001 NSCC/NLCC WINTER TRAINING

Ref: (a) NSCC Information Letter 3-01, 28 February 2001, 2001 NSCC/NLCC Summer Training Schedule
(b) NSCC/NLCC Advancement and Training Manual, Chapter Four
(c) NSCC/NLCC Escort Officer Handbook

Encl: (1) 2001 NSCC/NLCC Winter Training Schedule

1. This is the 2001 NSCC/NLCC Winter Training Schedule. At enclosure (1) are the dates and locations for 2001 winter training. NSCTNG 001/002's are to be submitted IAW directions provided for training opportunities in this letter. For all training:

  • 2001 Federal Funding support will be available; guidelines for winter training will follow guidelines as previously promulgated ref (a).
  • A $50.00 deposit is required for all two week evolutions.
  • A $25.00 deposit is required for all one week evolutions.
  • Deposit is to be sent with the NSCTNG 001/002 directly to the COTC or Point of Contact at the address provided. COTC's will retain the deposit and batch forward NSCTNG 001/002's to NHQ for final approval and issuance of orders.
  • NHQ will pay cadet messing, berthing, and other training related costs. COTC's will obtain funding by submission of the NSCTNG 021, COTC National Training Funding Request, contained in ref (a).
  • All cadets, staff cadets, and escort officers are responsible for their own travel costs to and from the training site.
  • NHQ will send orders to the Unit CO for distribution to cadets. Unit CO's ensure cadet preparation (including medical qualification) IAW refs (b) and (c).

2. Additional general notes: MOST IMPORTANT; YOU HAVE TO READ THIS! Training sites are military activities and access is controlled, and varies IAW the particular area alert condition in effect. This training schedule is promulgated based on the alert condition currently in effect (date of ltr), with the expectation that alert conditions currently in effect will not change and base access will still be allowed at the time of training. However, this can change in a moments notice, base access can be denied, or the training location can be changed, or the training cancelled entirely!

  • For all training, Unit CO's must maintain liaison with the COTC right up to the last minute to ensure they and their cadets are aware of any last minute changes or cancellations.
  • For everybody, ensure point of contact information on applications is accurate, clear, and legible.
  • If flying, recommend fully refundable tickets AND double check with COTC's to ensure the training location is firm before booking.
  1. All cadets must be under orders. Request for Training Authority NSCTNG 001/002 (Rev 2/00) is the standard form to be used. If NSCTNG 003/004's are used because of last minute time constraints or other reasons, please notify the COTC of intent to attend, and obtain his or her approval. COTC's must know that you're coming.

  2. ID cards must be up to date through end of training requested. An expired ID card means that the insurance has also expired, and we cannot issue orders.

3. RECRUIT TRAINING: The NSCC Recruit Training curriculum approved by Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL for NSCC use is 114 hours in length. Of this 114 hours, 30 hours are dedicated to physical fitness and company commander time and the remaining 84 hours are dedicated to 32 Navy RTC approved lessons. Providing an adequate winter recruit training over the Christmas holiday period requires 12 days. This is why recruit training is scheduled 26 December through 6 January. If cadets can not attend the entire period of training, wait for 2002 summer recruit training and do not apply for this winter training.

4. This information letter is cancelled effective 31 January 2002.
