NSCC INFORMATION LETTER 15-00

From: Deputy Director, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC)
To: Distribution

Subj: 2000 NSCC/NLCC WINTER TRAINING

Ref: (a) NSCC/NLCC Advancement and Training Manual, Chapter Four
(b) NSCC/NLCC Escort Officer Handbook

Encl: (1) 2000 NSCC/NLCC Winter Training Schedule

1. This is the 2000 NSCC/NLCC Winter Training Schedule. At enclosure (1) are the dates and locations for 2000 winter training. Only three POLA training evolutions are included, with the Palm Beach training limited to local cadets who can commute daily because there is no berthing. NSCTNG 001/002s are to be submitted IAW directions provided for training opportunities in this letter. For all training:

  • A $50.00 deposit is required.
  • The $50.00 deposit is to be sent with the NSCTNG 001/002 directly to the COTC or Point of Contact at the address provided. COTC's will retain the deposit and batch forward NSCTNG 001/002s to NHQ for final approval and issuance of orders.
  • NHQ will send orders to the Unit CO for distribution to cadets. Unit CO's ensure cadet preparation (including medical qualification) IAW refs (a) and (b).
  • Balance of payment will be due to the COTC upon reporting for training; cash, cashiers check or money order; no personal or unit checks.

2. Additional general notes:

  1. All cadets must be under orders. Request for Training Authority NSCTNG 001/002 (Rev 2/00) is the standard form to be used. If NSC-24Cs are used because of last minute time constraints or other reasons, please notify the COTC of intent to attend, and obtain his or her approval. COTC's must know that you're coming.

  2. ID cards must be up to date through end of training requested. An expired ID card means that the insurance has also expired, and we cannot issue orders.

3. NO RECRUIT TRAINING CURRENTLY SCHEDULED: The NSCC Recruit Training curriculum approved by Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL for NSCC use is 114 hours in length. Of this 114 hours, 30 hours are dedicated to physical fitness and company commander time and the remaining 84 hours are dedicated to 32 Navy RTC approved lessons. The school break between Christmas and return to school on the Tuesday immediately following New Years was 9 days in 1997, 8 days in 1998, 7 days in 1999, and this year stands at only 6 days (noon on 26 Dec through noon on 1 Jan), if school reconvenes Tuesday 2 January. Providing an adequate winter recruit training in this short period of time is not possible. It would only be possible where a school system reconvenes on 8 January, and as of this printing date, NHQ has not been advised of any opportunities with this later date for reconvening. Accordingly, no winter recruit training evolutions have been scheduled.

4. This information letter is cancelled effective 31 January 2000.
