NSCC INFORMATION LETTER 5-99 (CHANGE ONE)
1. This is change one to the 1999 NSCC/NLCC
summer training plan promulgated ref (a). It is in two parts; pen and ink corrections with
additional notes as immediately follow, and a complete reprint to the summer training
schedule itself. This reprint is at encl (1) and is a complete update of encl (3) to ref
(a). Remove and discard encl (3) to ref (a) and replace it with encl (1) to this
letter. All of the appropriate and relevant changes from ref (b) have been
incorporated into this update. However, notes and reference information for this summer's
training contained in the original schedule, ref (a), at encls (1) and (2) still apply.
Pen and ink corrections and additional notes are as follow.
- Pen and ink corrections:
- TAB C
to encl (1), ref (a), page 2, the SEAL test. Change paragraph 5
for the run to clearly read one and one half miles.
- TAB D to
encl (1), ref (a), first page, third item on the checklist. Change
to read, "Ensure insurance information has been written across
the top of the back of the NSC-22 per encl (1) Section 2 Application
Procedures."
- Additional general notes, add these to encl (1) ref (a),
Section 14, miscellaneous notes:
- Remember, please, that service records are to include
a copy of the ID card. NSCC
Action Letter 14-98 refers.
- For the FAA all ground schools, Section 9, there is a
need for about three adult escorts for each class, classes are in the training schedule at
encl (3). Escorting adults can take the instruction at minimal to no cost in return for
escorting duties. This is a great deal for any adult aspiring to fly! Call
Judge Colby if interested.
- For Amphib LCREEK, AO-VA at encl (3), the note says
must be able to swim. This is true! Participants should all feel comfortable in a water
environment. While you don't have to be an expert swimmer, you should be a strong swimmer.
The COTC, LTJG Rocha, is an active duty SEAL and an
ex Sea Cadet who instructs the teams in Amphibious Operations. Water borne exercises or
experiences may be expected.
- For NLCC Orientation Colorado, NT-CO, at the Air Force
Academy, cadets flying in must plan their flights so as to arrive in Colorado Springs not
earlier than 1200 hours on that Saturday, 26 June. The CAP has the barracks until that
time and NLCC can not occupy until that Saturday PM. POC is LCDR Van Arsdall. See the schedule and
call him for any special arrangements.
- COTC's will be using an updated and revised NSC-26 for reporting back to units and
Regional Directors any deficiencies regarding cadets reporting for
training. A copy is at encl (2) for your information and action
as appropriate. NSCC Action
Letter 14-98 refers. Our goal is to incorporate into the CY
00 inspection cycle credit for cadet preparation for summer training.
2. And please, remember and remind everyone it is
the responsibility of the parent and the unit to ensure all arrangements
have been made to get cadets to the training site. It is not the
COTC responsibility to arrange shuttles, van service, etc. to and
from local airports distant from training sites. Some COTC's have
done this and they are to be applauded. While they have gone above
and beyond, you must remember, it is still not their responsibility.
Also appreciate that this service or consideration even if the COTC
desired, probably couldn't be accomplished at the larger training
evolutions, because of overwhelming logistical problems. So, remember
where the responsibility lies and plan accordingly. Even though this
is on the NSC-22, it deserves re-emphasis.
