1999 NETHERLANDS SEA CADET EXCHANGE PROGRAM

1. Dates: 15 July arrival Amsterdam through 1 August.

2. General. The Netherlands has extended an invitation for four male/female cadets and one escort officer to participate in their exchange program during the period from 15 July to 1 August. Most of the Dutch cadets speak English.

3. Training/Activities. After arrival in Amsterdam on 15 July, the 16th is scheduled in and around Amsterdam to overcome any jet lag. On 17 July cadets will be transported to their National Summer Camp Training Site in an old and small town of MIDDELHARNIS The training portion of the visit will take part in this Summer Camp through 24 July. Following this the group will return to Amsterdam for Sightseeing and a touring. It is expected that most of the uniforms should be the dungaree working uniform with one dress uniform required. Civilian clothes should be taken for liberty periods.

4. Qualifications:

  • 16 years of age or older
  • E-3 or above
  • Awarded the NSCC Cadet Citation Ribbon
  • Not have previously participated
  • Be in good physical condition

5. Logistics/Costs. NSCC personnel will be responsible for their own air transportation to The Netherlands, and should plan to fly into Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport) on 15 July. Return should be on or around 1 August. Cadets must have in their possession a valid U.S. Passport before leaving the United States. The cost of the exchange is approximately $150 (US). This fee covers messing, berthing and entrance fees for tourist attractions. Although the weather is generally very good in July, it can also be quite rainy. All personnel are encouraged to bring a raincoat. Cadets should bring at least $100 for spending money for souvenirs and local transportation. The Netherlands is expensive.

6. Application Procedures. CALL NHQ AND ADVISE OF INTEREST. All applications must be received at NHQ not later than 1 May to allow for early notification of selectees and early arrangements for flights. Preference to early fully qualified applicants. SUBMIT NSC-22's DIRECTLY TO NHQ. Notification of selection or non-selection will be made as soon as quotas are filled but not later than 2 May. Applications will be entertained after the due date up until quotas are filled.

7. COTC/Senior Escort Officer. NEED COTC. If no COTC is identified by 1 May we will decline this opportunity.

8. Other. Quotas: 4 M/F cadet, 1 M/F escort.
