From: Deputy Director, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps
To: Distribution

Subj: 1997 NSCC/NLCC SUMMER TRAINING

Ref: (a) NSCC INFORMATION LETTER 3-97 dated 10 March 1997
(b) NSCC INFORMATION LETTER 3-97 (Revision Two) dated 29 April 1997
(c) NSCC INFORMATION LETTER 3-97 (Revision Three) dated 4 June 1997

Encl: (1) 1997 NSCC/NLCC Summer Training Schedule

1. The attached is a complete revision of enclosure (1) to reference (a) and replaces the 1997 NAVY TRAINING SCHEDULE promulgated in that correspondence, as well as the summer training schedules promulgated in references (b) and (c). The 1997 Summer Training Guidelines, pages 1 through 7 of reference (a), pages 1 and 2 of reference (b), and pages 1 through 4 of reference (c) are to be retained and used for proper guidance as needed.

2. The only COAST GUARD TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES received are as follows:

USCGC Blackberry (WLI 65303) at P.O Box 1150, Long Beach, NC 28405 POC: BM1 Tony Lamb at (910) 278-0933 1 July through the end of summer, 2 Male Cadets at any one time

USCGC Morro Bay (WTGB 106), Cc Reserve Training Center, Yorktown, VA 23690-5000 POC: Patrick McMahon (XO) at (757) 898-2200 1 July through 19 July, 2 Male Cadets at any one time

USCG Sanibel, USCG Monomy, and WLB Bittersweet, all at Woods Hole, MA and USCG Stations at Woods Hole, Brant Point, Menemsha, and Cape Cod Canal (Sandwich), MA, and Castle Hill and Point Judith, RI. POC: units desiring Cadet billets (Male/Female) for these ships/stations should contact LCDR James McLoughlin, NSCC, Kaehler Memorial Medical Clinic, USCG Air Station Cape Cod, Otis ANGB, MA 02542-5024. LCDR McLoughlin can be reached at (508) 968-0580 or FAX: (508) 968-6581

3. The Submarine Seminar in Bangor WA still has vacant billets, as does Basic Airman at NAS Lemoore, CA and other "late" additions to the schedule. Also, Navy League Orientation at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD has plenty of room for more Cadets. PLEASE take time to look at all the opportunities available for training, and ensure that your Cadets are given the opportunity to participate.

4. The number of quotas shown, especially in the CADET category, usually reflects the number of billets still available. The Aviation Ground Program is one exception to the above as Judge Colby maintains the data base on those training sites.

5. Don't send $$$ to NHQ for summer training. Cash, cashier's checks, traveler's checks or money orders should be given to the COTC at the training site. NO PERSONAL CHECKS or UNIT CHECKS.

6. Individuals going aboard Navy/Coast Guard ships for training should expect to pay approximately $6.00/day for food.

7. We have had Cadets show up at training sites without their training jackets, orders, ID cards, uniforms, or money. This is UNSAT, causes the volunteer staff a considerable amount of additional problems, and reflects poorly on your unit. Please THINK how you would like to see things if you were at the training site, and ensure your Cadets show up "healthy" and ready to be checked in.

8. A COTC is still needed for MEDICAL Training at Naval Hospital Bremerton, WA.

9. We also need Escort Officers at MANY training sites. Please volunteer your time/talents where you can. Challenging training, conducted in a positive manner, is the "key" to both recruiting and retention. Naval Sea Cadets and Navy League Cadets want to do things that their peers cannot do, and most of these training opportunities provide unique experiences. Good training is also one way in which we help these young people to increase their self-esteem, become more mature, and better prepare themselves for future: challenges. We need your support to ensure that training opportunities are not lost due to a lack of adult leaders.

10. This information letter is canceled effective 10 September 1977
