NSCC INFORMATION LETTER 2-96

Subj: SPONSORSHIP OF NSCC UNITS

Ref: (a) NSCC Regulations, Chapter One, Section Four

1. Backgroud: As sponsor of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, the Navy L,eague provides support nationally and at the local level through sponsorship of NSCC/NLCC units by individual NLUS Councils. Reference (a) authorizes patriotic service organizations (VFW, American Legion, NRA, NERA, etc.) to sponsor NSCC/NLCC units in locations where there are no Navy League Councils or in locations with councils not having resources to do so.

2. Discussion: Recognizing the value of NSCC as a youth training organization, other classes of organizations, specifically Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, Optimists, etc., have expressed interest in sponsoring units. The NSCC Board of Directors at its 4 November 1995 meeting in Mobile approved a motion to allow these type civic organizations to sponsor NSCC/NLCC units at the discretion of the NSCC National Chairman.

Extending authorization to civic organizations of this type to sponsor NSCC/NLCC units would permit firrther expansion of the program while ensuring that only reputable, desirable organizations would be so authorized. Organizations requesting this authorization would be required to subscribe to the training and education goals, drug free policies and ideals that form the basis of the NSCC program. Requests for sponsorship shall be submitted to NSCC Headquarters for review and approval.

3. Cancellation: This Information Letter is canceled when contents have been noted and upon incorporation in the next change to NSCC Regulations.
