NSCC/NLCC ACTION LETTER 04-09
1. September 10, 2009 marks the 47th year since Congress chartered the Naval Sea Cadet Corps in 1962. As such, we should make as much of this event as possible within the community and with the individual unit sponsoring organization. One way of doing this is is for the unit to publicize September 2009 as Naval Sea Cadet Corps Month with each sponsor. . 2. Designation of September as Naval Sea Cadet Corps Month presents a unique opportunity for Sea Cadets and sponsoring organizations to publicize the NSCC/NLCC program and commemorate the formal establishment and chartering of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps forty seven years ago. Please use this opportunity to let your sponsor know what the unit is doing and how much the sponsor is helping. Sponsors’ are interested in where the support money is going and how it is helping young adults. Invite sponsor members to the September meeting or other Sea Cadet activities. 3. Use this opportunity to do something extraordinary! Units sponsored by an organization other than a NLUS Council should solicit the sponsor and bring this to the attention of senior officials. Regional Directors should contact NLUS councils in their region not currently sponsoring a NSCC/NLCC unit, explain the benefits of sponsoring a NSCC unit, and offer any possible assistance with the formation process+s. School will be open in September, and this is a good time to visit schools and let officials know the Sea Cadets have been in a Congressionally chartered 4. Each commanding officer is requested to contact the sponsoring Navy League Council, or other sponsoring organization, and volunteer to participate in special NLUS/organizational activities during September. Suggested activities include use of a NSCC Color Guard for opening ceremonies; commanding officer and/or cadets' speaking to the council about NSCC activities; joint awards/recognition ceremonies; drill team demonstration; inviting NLUS members as special guests for Flagship; special proclamation ceremonies; showing the NSCC Promotional Video to school/civic/community groups, etc. 5. This action letter is cancelled 31 December 2009.
